Planting tree kits is easy and so is growing clean air

It’s easy to give your tree seedling the best chance to grow into a healthy tree to clean the air, just follow these ten simple steps below:

  1. Place your tree kit's growing pot into a cup or bowl.
  2. Place your tree kit's growing pellet into the bottom of the pot.  Your tree seeds are attached with biodegradable glue to the top of the growing pellet, so be careful not to knock these off.
  3. Gradually add 70 ml of warm water into base of cup or bowl, not onto the growing pellet itself. Be careful not to over-water.

    TIP:

You can use one half of the globe to measure the water (one half holds about 70ml), and then use it to cover the growing pot.

  4. Gently tease a little bit of soil out of the growing pellet to cover the seeds.
  5. Place one half of the Clean Air Tree Kit globe over the pot and place in a warm spot until it sprouts (which should happen after about 14 – 21days). Water only lightly when it dries out and the soil turns a light brown colour.
  6. When seeds have sprouted, remove the globe and place in full sunlight. Keep damp until the first needles start to show.
  7. TIP:

A harmless mold can occur if the sprouting seedling is kept in the dark due to lack of sun light. Make sure you remove the covering globe and place in a well lit location.

  8. Once the needles have fully emerged, your tree seedlings will require special fertilizer food, which you can buy from most garden centres.
  9. A 10cm (4 inch) tree seedling could take 12 –16 weeks to grow when fed properly and given the right amount of sun.
  10. Your tree seedling should be planted when the risk of frost or drought has passed. Plant in an area where the ground isn’t too compact and there’s a good source of water all year round.
  11. Plant the tree seedling in its pot in the garden, making sure that the soil is deep enough to cover the pot completely. Water well daily for two weeks, then as needed as it grows into a tree and helps to clean the air!
